CAPS Robotics hosted a FLL Rumble! Including our team, our sister teams the Metal Mustangs and the Cobalt Colts hosted a FLL tournament inside the CAPS center. In addition to providing support and practice for the younger teams, the tournament doubled as a fundraiser.
Including snacks and drinks donated by members and parents, we also received donations for raffles. Our concessions team reports that the frustrations and fast-paced roles helped them bond as a team, and develop management skills. The revenue will be used in our transportation and food costs during the competition.
As entertainment, the team put together a playlist to dance to, including the “cupid shuffle” and “watch me”. Initially few people came to the floor, but through our efforts we pulled the kids out of their shy personalities to have fun!
Even without prompting the younger teams, we saw many perform acts of gracious professionalism. Teams helped each other troubleshoot programming, and gave advice on build. There was no shortage of team spirit, as we saw teammates support each other during and after the matches, through victory and loss.
Judging was a valuable experience for all members who participated. In addition to having the chance to observe team mechanics, including leadership skills up close. From this, we learned what makes a better team, and resolve to implement those ideas into our own team.
